Privacy policy

ReadBilingual is made by Bobo Labs. This page says what the website and the app collect, what they don't, and how to reach me. The short version: there are no accounts, your reading lives on your phone, and I collect as little as I can get away with.
The website
readbilingual.com uses Plausible, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to count visits. It sets no cookies and stores no personal data. I see page counts, referrers and rough countries, never who you are.
Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google sees your IP address when the font file is requested.
The app
No account. Your library, reading progress, saved words and streak are stored on your device. If you delete the app, they go with it.
Subscriptions go through the App Store or Google Play and are managed by RevenueCat. I receive an anonymous subscriber ID and the state of your subscription. I never see your payment details.
Analytics. The app sends anonymous usage events (a story was opened, a chapter was finished) to PostHog so I can see what works. No name, no email, no contents of what you read or type.
Imports. If you enter a Duolingo username, the app asks my server to fetch that public profile from Duolingo and returns the course list and estimated level. The username isn't stored beyond that request. If you paste or upload a word list, it's matched against the level lists and not kept.
Custom stories. If you ask for a story of your own, the description you write is sent to my server to write the story and is not stored after the story is returned. The story itself is saved on your device.
Audio is downloaded from my server when you first press play and cached on your device.
What I don't do
- Sell or share data with advertisers.
- Track you across other sites or apps.
- Send marketing email. There is no email list.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask what data I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to processing. Because there are no accounts, the honest answer is usually “nothing that identifies you”, but ask anyway and I'll check. Write to hello@readbilingual.com.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes get a note in the app.
